    Dads filter upgrade

this is dads original filter system

both skimmer and bottom drain to sequence 4500 aquadine 2.1 bead filter with blower to 2 waterfalls and it also feeds the uv then to a homemade moving bead in a 35 gallon trashcan

then we upgraded the filter system to the following

Bottom drain to sequence 4500 then split three ways
Line one is going to an aquadine 2.1 bead filter with blower (we removed the beads and added K1 in its place to reduce the clogging) then this feeds the small waterfall
Line two goes through the uv then to an eazypod then gravity feed back to pond
Line three goes to a bio reactor the gravity feed back to pond

Skimmer circuit goes through filter net then through filter pads and then it feeds the big waterfall.

Now i just bought a used nexus 200 it was in sad shape but i only paid 500 for it below are the pictures of the unit as i replace and fix it up..

i do not have any before pictures of the unit.. the guy that owned it did not use the eazy with the unit but rather had filter pads in the center of the unit so needless to say it was all plugged up and needed a massive cleaning..
it did have K1 in the outer chamber but dad was not into cleaning it so we gave it away..

we will add the K1 from the Bio reactor and eazypod and then add new K1 to make up the difference plus add all new K1 in the eazy in the center

there were no valves for the air lines plus the air lines that were installed were all cracked and needed to be replaces

    below are the pictures

    saturday

well yesterday was the day to start the install of the new filter system for dad.. first thing was to remove the old filtration then see what is needed to install the new..

the shack that dad build was a bit small so we had to cut an access panel in the side to plum the skimmer and waterfalls

the install is as follows we installed an es8500 on the skimmer and that feeds both the waterfalls one big and one small. its really tight and i had to do some crazy piping because of this

from the bottom drain we have an es2500 feeding the nexus200 again things are very tight once the nexus was in place you can see what i mean by very tight. i have taken photos from the front door and side panel that we cut in

in the nexus i had installed a 14" pipe to keep that water level up we took the old media from the old eazypod and bioreactor and added it to the nexus200 plus we added one of the bags of k1in the post before this one

today we did the finishing touches.. all that was left is to cover the 4" pipe and to reinstall the side panel that we removed. i need to find a better way to hide the pipe but for now mom does not care she loves having more water coming off of the waterfalls and loves the ease dad will have cleaning the filter.. the last thing i need to get is the stand pipe for cleaning the filter.. i have the plug end but cant find a pipe to fit it as its 110mm

they do work very well as long as they are not overloaded. the pond is around 3500 gallons and we are feeding the filter with an es2500 from the bottom drain and his fish load is kind of heavy 14 - 16" to 18" koi. during the feeding season he cleans the filter 2 times a week. but the water is always sparkling.
